Pauline York Band
Since jumping into the Chicago music scene in 1997, Pauline York has been putting her personal spin on American Roots & Blues Music. York, lead guitar & vocals, and her band deliver pure, honest, from-the-heart music. No smoke, mirrors or frills here, just real music for real people. Blackberry Wine, Pauline's debut CD is a blend of her many influences, coming from folk-rock, blues, and Cajun.
At age 14, Pauline was exposed to the driving "Texas sound", which inspired her to explore the roots of that music. It led backwards into the music of Freddie King, and Jimmy Reed. She then went from Texas to Louisiana, where she fell in love with the Cajun sound, and to Memphis for some of that Stax Soul. The result is a fresh new sound...a style all her own.
What motivates the members of PYB? Good music? Legions of adoring fans? Cheeseburgers? Get inside their heads: Ten Things About... "From out of nowhere comes this refreshing young Midwestern singer/guitarist and her band. [Blackberry Wine] is a remarkably accomplished debut." - Blues Revue "York has come up with a good album for those who like a harder edge to their blues without straying into blues/rock…the title track suggests good things for the future." - Blues on Stage
"She’s the kind of blues woman that isn’t content in standing with just a mic, preferring to pick up a guitar and lay down some searing leads." - CD Baby
"…One little package of dynamite that can work a guitar from one end to the other, and her voice follows every note." - Blues Society of the Ozarks
