Michael Quest

This CD represents the best of my songwriting, life experience and performing live. "24-7-365" is my signature song, with more guitar based blues rock, acoustic rock ballads, and surf style guitar instrumentals following it on the disc. (Review) When I went to the mailbox today, I found a CD by an independent solo artist named Michael Quest. Quest produced, played all the instruments and wrote all the songs. This Michigan-based performer named his CD 24-7-365. We'd have to see if the CD lived up to its title. It was going to be tough, being we're based in a place that always lives up to that title, Las Vegas.

Quest found himself a catchy guitar riff for the title song "24-7-365" that fuels this tune. The hard rocking "CAUGHT IN THE VALLEY" shows off Michael's gruff vocals. The rock beat of "GONNA GET SOME" is reminiscent of Bad Company. "READY TO GO" would fit in nicely on any George Thorogood CD. The acoustic "UNWANTED MAN" is a good change of pace.

"BODY AND BLOOD" is another good acoustic piece from Quest. The instrumentals "Q-SURF" and "JUMBLE" show just how much he needs a band. "APARTMENT BLUES" gives his voice its best platform. The acoustic "F-WORD" is a misstep that should be forgotten. "INVISIBLE STRIP" is a memorable ballad where Quest redeems himself.

The Bob Seger sounding "THE KIND OF CRAZY I LIKE" would be better with some saxophone. "MM-n-M BLUES" would be better served as an intrumental. A journey into country, "MY NEXT WIFE MET MY X-WIFE", could be a hit. "BETTER PLACE" is a ballad that Quest does well, and ends the CD. 24-7-365 is a good CD for fans of all kinds of music. The right backing band and a little retooling could make it great.
