Chris Hiatt Band

Chris Hiatt Band

CHRIS HIATT should be listed in the dictionary under the word,"diversity". Besides the ability to play 13 different instruments, Hiatt is able to breeze through rock, punk, ska, blues, even country with ease. Each of these musical styles manage to creep into his musical repertoire.Hiatt, 36, is currently involved in two musical directions. The first (and nearest to his heart) is the original music project that has spawned two albums for Phoenix-based Shangri-La Records. The music, is best described by a Portland critic as Blues-based-British-influenced-MTV-Pop.Hiatt's other pursuit is a heartfelt tribute to the late Texas bluesman STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN.Vaughan is one of Chris Hiatt's main musical influences, though that vein is not as easily noticed as the influences of Jimi Hendrix, Mark Knopfler (of Dire Straits), Johhny Marr (of the Smiths), the Beatles, R.E.M.,and scores of other guitarists whose records lurked in the back of Hiatt's collection. The band includes Pennsylvania-born THE GERM on bass guitar and drummer CHRIS 'CRASH' KLETTKE, originally from Washington State. Germ's solid attack and his sense of groove made him an obvious choice to work in Hiatt's band.A veteran of many area bands, Germ also brings a mountain of both live and studio experience under his belt. Crash was the prestigious INLAND EMPIRE BLUES SOCIETY's 1997 BEST BLUES DRUMMER OF THE YEAR, an honor presented by his peers and by regional blues fans.

The band has released Hiatt's third CD in August 2002 on Chris' own label. 'THE BALLAD OF TEXAS FLOYD' is the bluesy follow-up to Hiatt's 1999 release, 'CATHARIS' and appeals to Hiatt's fans of Rockin' Blues. 'Floyd' was recorded and mixed at Tempe's Mayberry Studios with the invaluable assisitance of engineers Josh kennedy and Robin Wilson (of Tempe's GIN BLOSSOMS). One track features a guest background vocal appearance from Ayanna Hobson (of Phoenix soul outfit Ayanna & the Soulmates) The band lives and works out of Phoenix, Arizona.
