Boogie Stuff
As I often tell my readers, great blues/rock music can be found in nearly every country in the world. At Bluesrockers, we have reviewed artists from Australia, Tasmania, Germany, Belgium, the United States, Denmark, Norway, The Netherlands, England, Spain, Sweden, with others to come from places like Finland and Canada.
Thanks to the internet, artists that formerly would have not come to the world's attention now have an avenue by which to be heard. One of our primary goals at Bluesrockers is hopefully to bring some of this great music to your attention.
Today's stop brings us to Bavaria and a most interesting and entertaining band Boogie Stuff. The band is a 3 piece, power trio, blues/rock/boogie band, fronted by Horst Tolks, who is rapidly becoming one of my favorite guitarists. Tolks is more than capably backed by Andy Broetzner on bass guitar and Pete Bruestle on drums. The CD includes mostly covers together with a couple of Tolks origins. The music is high energy and reminds me in ways of ZZ Top. It continues to impress me just how many European bands have been influenced by the Little Ole Band from Texas.
Highlights from this CD include an excellent cover of the Andy Timmons song "Guess Who's Back In Town", the hard rocking "Quit While You're Behind", and the electric boogie bomb "The Stealer". The two best tracks, however, are the two original compositions: the instrumental "6400" and the powerhouse "Can't You Hear Me Cryin" which is my personal favorite. Two original tracks this good definitely make you look forward to future recordings from this band.
"...still rough 'n wild" is available at the official Boogie Stuff web site at www.boogiestuff.de or may be imported online by way of Music People in Germany at www.musicpeople.de.
